CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Blacksmith's 2009 Top Ten Report
Looking for Pollution Solutions / Success Stories
Since 2006, Blacksmith’s Top Ten reports have documented the world’s worst polluted places and problems. This year, Blacksmith’s 2009 Top Ten report will shift focus to spotlight some of the most successful strategies and techniques that have been used by many agencies over the past 50 years to eliminate the health impacts of toxic pollution.
We are calling upon communities, governments, multilateral and non-governmental organizations that have had successful environmental remediation projects to submit a site or innovative technology for consideration.
Blacksmith's 2009 Top Ten report is expected to show all the gains made in eliminating toxic pollution in the developing world.
Issued jointly with Green Cross Switzerland since 2007, the Blacksmith reports have been instrumental in increasing public understanding of the health impacts posed by the worst sites and, in some cases, compelling cleanup.
Specifically, we are looking for a brief 1-2 sentence response regarding:
- The site location and affected population
- The pollutant(s) and the pathway(s)
- The main strategy used for the clean up
- And a summary of the most compelling before/after results
Feel free to send along reports or links to reports that include the above information.
Blacksmith Institute's Technical Advisory Board will evaluate the submissions and issue its report later in the fall.
Direct nominations and questions to Sasha Hoff at
Nomination deadline: August 31, 2009.
We hope you consider being a part of this year's report.
